A survey of 13,655 patients undergoing LASIK or LASEK laser vision correction at Optical Express refractive surgery centers finds 95 percent of patients say they are “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with their vision one month after surgery.

Laser vision correction survey finds 95 percent of patients are satisfied with outcome
July 31, 2009LASIK complications occur in less than one percent of eyes, study finds
July 29, 2009A study of more than 42,000 eyes of nearly 23,000 patients who underwent customized, wavefront-guided LASIK at Optical Express refractive surgery centers in 2008 shows the procedure is safe and effective for the correction of low to moderate myopia, and fewer than one percent of these eyes experience LASIK complications.
Wavefront-guided LASIK found safe, effective for correction of myopia and astigmatism
July 27, 2009Wavefront-guided LASIK is safe and effective for treating low to moderate myopia (with or without astigmatism), according to a large-scale, multi-center study conducted by Optical Express.
Patients pleased with monovision cataract surgery
July 24, 2009Researchers in Australia recently found that most people who undergo monovision cataract surgery have less need for reading glasses and are generally pleased with their vision after surgery.
Visian phakic IOL found safe, effective for correction of moderate to high myopia
July 23, 2009Researchers in Japan have found the Visian Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL), a posterior chamber phakic IOL, is safe and effective for the correction of moderate and high myopia. The Visian ICL, like other phakic IOLs, is implanted inside the eye without removing the eye’s natural lens.
RLE with toric IOL implantation effectively corrects astigmatism
July 22, 2009Researchers in Spain have found that refractive lens exchange (RLE) with toric IOL implantation effectively corrects corneal astigmatism. Toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are specially designed lens implants that contain both sphere and cylinder powers to correct astigmatism. Use of toric IOLs may reduce the need for a secondary surgical procedure called limbal relaxing incisions (LRI) after refractive cataract surgery and RLE.
LASIK safe and effective for treating hyperopia, study says
July 20, 2009Though LASIK is most frequently used to correct myopia, researchers in Spain have found the procedure is also safe and effective for the correction of up to 6.25 diopters (D) of farsightedness (hyperopia).

Premium IOLs for cataract and refractive surgery reviewed
July 17, 2009Intraocular lens (IOL) technology used in cataract and refractive surgery is rapidly changing, and it can be difficult for general eye doctors to keep up with all the advances. In the June 2009 issue of Optometric Management, optometrist Justin Holt, OD, updates his colleagues on the latest premium IOLs available for patients who need cataract surgery or who desire lens-based refractive surgery, such as refractive lens exchange (RLE) or phakic IOL implantation.
Study finds aspheric IOLs provide better contrast sensitivity than spherical IOLs
July 15, 2009Researchers in Italy have found that aspheric intraocular lenses (IOLs) used in cataract surgery produce better contrast sensitivity than conventional spherical IOLs. Their findings suggest aspheric IOLs may produce noticeably better vision for tasks in low-light conditions, such as driving at night.
Femtosecond laser flaps produce better LASIK outcomes, study says
July 10, 2009As refractive surgeons continue to debate the best method to create LASIK flaps, the results of a large new study suggest flaps created with a femtosecond laser may produce superior visual outcomes and reduce LASIK risks.
