Researchers in Spain have found that refractive lens exchange (RLE) with toric IOL implantation effectively corrects corneal astigmatism. Toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) are specially designed lens implants that contain both sphere and cylinder powers to correct astigmatism. Use of toric IOLs may reduce the need for a secondary surgical procedure called limbal relaxing incisions (LRI) after refractive cataract surgery and RLE.
